DAVINA BOSANQUET (b.1981)

About Davina

I am a contemporary British artist based in London. I have been painting portraits since I was 16 years old. I have a deep love of animals and alongside my portraiture I have used my art to contribution to conservation. Recently I have been working on a new series of work exploring the intersections of cultural identity, human experience, and the natural world.

My abstract work consists of layered paintings—created using mixed media, acrylic, oil, and sometimes textiles. Loose backgrounds and lively mark-making blend with realistic figures which I hope portray an expressive, intuitive energy.

A Life Between
Worlds

I grew up in the British countryside, surrounded by animals and my parents instilled in me a love of travel. I have had the amazing experience of living in both Brazil and South Africa with my husband. These places—and the people and animals I encountered along the way—have shaped the way I see and paint the world.

I have exhibited widely in galleries, exhibitions and art fairs across the UK and in Cape Town. I have been a finalist eight times at the Wildlife Artist of the Year, and have been lucky enough to win my category twice.

While living in Cape Town, I worked with artists in township communities and co-founded an exhibition space at Ikhaya la Langa.

The Art of Play

After studying technical portrait training in London, and illustration at Edinburgh and Bournemouth, I returned to my own creative instincts—experimenting with colour, texture, and movement.

My current series celebrates the joy of everyday life: the energy of children, the loyalty of animals, and the quiet magic of nature, taking inspiration from my own life alongside my two small children, husband and family dogs Calvin and Leia.

Whether through a vibrant canvas or a delicate pencil sketch, my goal is to create moments of beauty and connection that I hope uplift both the viewer and the cause they support.

Giving Back Through Art

My commitment to conservation and community-building has continued to be an important part of my practice. I have held two solo shows in support of wildlife organisations and have taken part in many group exhibitions and competitions donating a portion (or all) of the proceeds to these causes. I would like my work to continue to raise awareness for species protection and creative education initiatives.
